Sections

Nebraska Bar Association provides access to resources for those interested in everything from Agricultural Law to Worker's Compensation Law. These sections are lawyers who practice in and have an interest in these areas of the law. Many have meetings, education, and periodic newsletters to inform and assist their colleagues.  If you wish to become a member of one of our sections, complete the Join a Section page.

New Section Benefit Now Available: Lexology Newsstand
The NSBA Section Newsstand is a partnership with Lexology that provides free electronic newsletters (legal news feeds) specific to certain practice areas. The Newsstand was previously being offered to the Business and Family Law Sections and was well received. Last week the NSBA expanded the NSBA Section Newsstand to additional Sections.Complete list of sections receiving Lexology.

  • Agricultural Law Section - The general purpose of the Section shall be the promotion of the objects of the Nebraska State Bar Association by improving the professional knowledge and skill of the members of the Association in the agricultural law field
  • Alternative Dispute Resolution Section - The section shall study the different alternatives for dispute resolution and the circumstances in which they are likely to work, in a manner consistent with both recognized concepts of due process and the efficient administration of justice.
  • Appellate Practice Section - The purposes of the Appellate Practice Section are (1) to promote the role and enhance the skills of Nebraska appellate lawyers to best serve clients, and (2) to improve the practice of appellate law in Nebraska.
  • Bank Attorneys Section - Bank Attorneys Section provides a statewide forum for bank attorneys and other legal professionals to promote and improve the professional knowledge and skill of Association members by addressing practical and legal issues arising in financial and commercial laws and regulations.
  • Bankruptcy Section - This section is comprised of lawyers who practice or have an interest in bankruptcy law. The section provides a common forum for exchanging ideas. It promotes and provides continuing education in the fields of bankruptcy and commercial law and fosters excellence and professionalism in the practice.
  • Business Law Section - This section is comprised of lawyers who practice or have an interest in business law. The section provides a common forum for exchanging ideas. It promotes and provides continuing education in the field of business law and fosters excellence and professionalism in the practice. The section develops improvements in substantive and procedural laws relating to the business community.
  • Business Law Section: Franchise Committee
    This a committee of the Business Law Section.  Lawyers may opt in to Franchise Committee membership when they join the Business Law Section.
  • Corporate Counsel Section - This section is comprised of in-house counsel and attorneys in private practice engaged in the corporate practice of law. The section provides a common forum for exchanging ideas.
  • Elder Law Section - This section is comprised of lawyers who practice or have an interest in elder law. The section provides a common forum for exchanging ideas. It promotes and provides continuing education in fields affecting older clients and fosters excellence and professionalism in the practice.
  • Family Law Section - This section is comprised of lawyers concerned with the practice of family law, including but not limited to the areas of legal separation, dissolution of marriage, juvenile law and adoption. This section encourages continuing study and practice in these areas and fosters excellence and professionalism in the practice.
  • General Practice Section - This section is comprised of lawyers who practice or have an interest in general practice. The section provides a common forum for exchanging ideas. The section fosters excellence and professionalism in the practice.
  • Government and Administrative Practice Section - This section is comprised of lawyers who are employed in the public or private sector and are engaged in government practice. The section provides a common forum for exchanging ideas. It promotes and provides continuing education in the fields of government practice and fosters excellence and professionalism in the practice.
  • Health Law Section - The purposes of the Health Law Section are to provide a statewide forum for attorneys to expand their knowledge and practice skills in all areas of health law, to better serve the legal needs of the health care sector, to promote education on changing trends in health law, and to promote the mission of the Nebraska State Bar Association.
  • Hispanic Lawyers Section - The purpose of this section is to: foster and maintain the honor, dignity and integrity of the legal profession; promote the professional development of Hispanic lawyers and law students in Nebraska; promote the representation of Hispanic lawyers in leadership positions within the Nebraska State Bar Association; promote the representation of Hispanic lawyers in the judiciary, within the guidelines appropriate to the NSBA.
  • Immigration Law Section - This section shall study and make recommendations in the area of immigration law. The section is comprised of lawyers concerned with the practice of all aspects of immigration law. The Section provides a common forum for exchanging ideas and promoting and providing continuing legal education, social interaction and discussion among the members through scheduled lunches with speakers and other educational meetings.
  • Indian Law Section - The purposes of the Indian Law Section are to advance the understanding, study, adoption, application, interpretation, and improvement of the federal laws, tribal laws and, to the extent applicable, state laws, rules, and regulations which pertain to Indians, to Indian tribes, or to Indian country, and to their administration and enforcement; to understand and improve the relationships of these bodies of law and judicial and administrative systems, and to encourage and support mutual respect for, and understanding of, the cultures, values, customs, and heritages which underlie them. Furthermore, the Section will encourage members of the Nebraska State Bar Association (“Association”), both Indian and non-Indian, with respect to the application of laws and legal procedures of particular relevance to the Indian communities and governments thereof.
  • Intellectual Property Section - This section shall study and make recommendations in the area of Patents, trademarks, copyrights and trade secrets. Nebraska continues to experience an increase in the number of technology-bases businesses that have established, enhanced or maintained a presence in the State. For these businesses, intellectual property (IP) rights (e.g., patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets) typically constitute a major competitive asset.
  • Juvenile Law Section - This section shall study and make recommendations in the area of juvenile law. It shall monitor, study and evaluate laws, rules and procedures that relate to the rights of juveniles in both civil and criminal systems.
  • Labor Relations and Employment Law Section - This section is comprised of lawyers who practice or have an interest in labor relations and employment law. The section provides a forum for the discussion and development of substantive and procedural laws relating to the field of labor relations and employment law.
  • Law Practice Management Section - This section is comprised of lawyers who practice or have an interest in law practice management. The section provides a common forum for exchanging ideas and seeks to educate and inform NSBA members about techniques, management strategies and technology and how these may be implemented in their practices
  • Limited Scope Representation Section - The purposes of the Limited Scope Representation Section are (1) to promote the role and enhance the skills of Nebraska lawyers to best serve clients in situations involving limited scope representation, and (2) to improve the practice of limited scope representation law in Nebraska.
  • Military Law Section - The general purpose of the Section shall be the promotion of the objects of the Nebraska State Bar Association (herein the Association) by improving the professional knowledge and skill of the members of the Association in the field designated by the name of the Section.
  • Natural Resources and Environmental Law Section - This section is comprised of lawyers who practice or have an interest in natural resources law. The section provides a common forum for exchanging ideas. It promotes and provides continuing education in the fields of natural resources and environmental law and fosters excellence and professionalism in the practice.
  • Public Interest Law - This section is comprised of lawyers who practice or have an interest in using public interest law to create a more just society. The section provides a common forum for exchanging ideas among public interest practitioners.
  • Real Estate, Probate and Trust Law Section - This section is comprised of lawyers who practice or have an interest in real estate, probate and trust areas. The section provides a common forum for exchanging ideas. It promotes and provides continuing education in the field of real estate, probate and trust law and fosters excellence and professionalism in the practice.
  • Securities Law Section - This section is comprised of lawyers who practice or have an interest in securities law. The section provides a common forum for exchanging ideas. It promotes and provides continuing education in the field of securities law and fosters excellence and professionalism in the practice.
  • Senior Lawyers Section - This section is comprised of lawyers 55 years old and older and includes senior practicing attorneys as well as retired and semi-retired lawyers. This section provides a common forum for exchanging ideas. It promotes and provides continuing education for retired or semi-retired lawyers and fosters excellence and professionalism.
  • Taxation Section - The Taxation Section provides a statewide forum for attorneys to promote and improve the professional knowledge and skill of Association members by addressing practical and legal issues arising in taxation laws and regulations. In addition, the Taxation Section cultivates social and professional relationships among its members and provides for the dissemination of information related to the interests of its members.
  • Women and the Law Section - This section is comprised of lawyers who promote study of the legal system and its existing and contemplated effect on women in the fields of family law, estate planning, welfare law, creditor-debtor law, employment law and criminal and corrections law. The section provides a common forum for exchanging ideas. It promotes and provides continuing education to enhance professional skills and confidence and increase general awareness and understanding in substantive areas as they affect women.
  • Worker's Compensation Section - This section is comprised of lawyers who practice or have an interest in workers' compensation law. The section provides a common forum for exchanging ideas. It promotes and provides continuing education in the field of workers' compensation law and fosters excellence and professionalism in the practice. Members are kept apprised of court rules changes, proposed legislation and significant decisions.
  • Young Lawyers Section - This section is comprised of lawyers who work to integrate young and new lawyers into the practice of law, encourage them to participate in the activities of the Nebraska Sate Bar Association and the American Bar Association, and to provide educational and social opportunities for all members of the Bar. The section fosters excellence and professionalism in law practice.
