ESSENTIAL TO YOUR PRACTICE: THE NSBA CORE BENEFITS
Casemaker Premium is an online legal research engine similar to Lexis or Westlaw. It is available to all NSBA members who pay dues. Casemaker includes legal authorities for all fifty (50) states, plus the federal government, and has a companion mobile application. Casmaker also offers a number of additional premium services, free to NSBA dues-paying members (an additional value of $450 per year).
Casecheck+ works like Shephard’s® and KeyCite® to notify you instantly of negative treatment, identifying whether your case law citations are still good law. Casecheck+ returns both positive and negative treatments instantly as you research and links to negative treatments so you can quickly review the citation history for both state and federal cases. It works seamlessly inside the new Casemaker and doesn’t require any extra steps to use. Ready to purchase? Just click on the “Try CaseCheck+” banner at the top of the page while in Casemaker. Any questions, just call customer support at 877-659-0801.
CiteCheck analyzes every citation in your brief (or your opponent’s) and provides you with a report of good law, negative treatments and potential citation format errors. In just moments, you have this critical information.
Casemaker Digest allows dues–paying members to receive daily summaries of the latest state and federal appellate decisions (within 12-24 hours of publication) classified by practice area. Choose one area, a few or all, and get exactly the information you need when you need it.
Free and Reduced Cost CLE
Take advantage of high-quality, yet affordable NSBA continuing legal education (CLE) programs. The NSBA strives to price its CLE programs competitively compared to other providers. Members who pay dues receive 25% discounts off of the already low price of NSBA Continuing Legal Education seminars. As an added bonus, dues–paying members can receive two free hours of NSBA live ethics CLE. If you receive all of your ten mandatory hours of CLE through the NSBA, this benefit saves you more than the cost of dues ($240 in CLE discounts vs. $237 for regular active dues). Have trouble tracking all your CLE hours for the year? Your NSBA membership portal will now track all the information you need to report to the MCLE Commission for the CLE hours you obtain from the NSBA.
These discounts also apply to the NSBA Annual Meeting. The NSBA is proud to host one of the best-attended Annual Meetings in the entire nation. One of the reasons that the NSBA Annual Meeting has been so successful is the large amount (20 to 30 hours over the course of three days) of continuing legal education it offers at this time. Sections, Committees, and other groups offer 90 minute and 2 hour programs on a large number of topics, including substantive law, professional responsibility, and technology. You can obtain all of a year's worth of CLE by attending Annual Meeting, and enjoy networking opportunities and social events.
Build your professional network by joining a NSBA Section. NSBA members can also connect with other attorneys in their area of practice through NSBA Section events, seminars and listservs and gain access to resources developed specifically by Sections. See a list of sections available to NSBA Dues Paying Members.
Research indicates that creating documents from within a document assembly system is 50% to 80% quicker than standard creation. In 2014, the NSBA will be working with NSBA Sections to strengthen NebDocs, an online document assembly system. NebDocs templates ask questions and automatically create customized documents based on the answers given, saving dues-paying members, time effort and money in the production of repetitive documents and forms in a number of areas from real estate, family law, business law, probate, etc.
Keeping Abreast of Changes to Nebraska Statutory Law
As lawyers, it is imperative that we are up-to-date on changes to the law. The NSBA’s Legislative Program helps to keep you informed while saving you valuable time. The NSBA Legal Counsel reviews hundreds of bills each legislative session. They collect and categorize those relevant to our various areas of practice, and, during the session, the NSBA Legislative Update is sent weekly to dues-paying members to update them on the status of bills impacting their areas of practice.
The Nebraska Lawyer Magazine
Published six times a year, The Nebraska Lawyer offers lawyers an opportunity to read articles on a variety of substantive legal topics, practice tips, ethics articles, as well as news from the bar, the court, and their colleagues.
The Nebraska State Bar Association Leadership Academy
The NSBA Leadership Academy is a program designed to nurture effective leadership with respect to ethical, professional and community service issues; build relationships among legal leaders from across the state and from across disciplines within the profession; raise the level of awareness among lawyers regarding the broad range of issues facing the legal profession; and enhance the diversity of leaders within the legal profession and the community as a whole.
