Nebraska criminal law has undergone sweeping changes in the past two years with the passage of LB-605 and its progeny. Billed as “prison reform”, the new laws not only dramatically reduce sanctions for criminal conduct , but also increase the burdens on jails, probation and parole departments. Additionally, they may have an indirect, unforeseen impact on prosecutor charging decisions, plea negotiations and disparate criminal caseloads between County and District Courts.
