The speaker will discuss intergenerational diversity and how to effectively manage intergenerational workplace
diversity through communication, motivation, training and development, and engagement and teamwork

Recognizing and Addressing Unconscious Bias inthe Practice Setting

The panel will offer perspectives and insights related to: specific instances in which implicit biases arise; detangling
biases from more objective views about others’ capabilities and work product; the impact of biases on inclusion efforts; how individuals can recognize and address biases; how to address others’ claims that their views are always bias-free; and developing a culture of inclusion from an organizational standpoint.

Birth Control and Beyond: An Overview of Sex-Based Discrimination and the Law
Professor Beth Burkstrand-Reid

Sexual harassment and abortion are the legal controversies people typically think of when thinking of sex-based
discrimination law. While these are key examples of areas in which the law is used in an attempt to remedy sexbased discrimination in society, they are far from the only areas in which sex discrimination is at issue. This program provides seeks to provide attendees with a broad overview of how issues involving sex discrimination are being dealt with in the law in a wide variety of contexts including the military, reproduction, family law, education, employment and criminal law. In so doing, it will examine the extent to which the state can or should intervene to “protect” women and men from discrimination based on sex; the efficacy of those protections when enacted; and why having a basic knowledge sex-based discrimination law is necessary for all lawyers.

The LGBT Community: Common Legal Issues
Carl Eskridge; Amy Miller; Professor Richard Weiner; Rhonda Uher; Angela Dunne

Panelists will discuss common legal issues faced by the LGBT Community from discrimination in employment,
housing and public accommodations, issues within schools, as well as name changes, custody, adoption and other
family law matters. Panelists will explore how to begin understanding these legal issues from the perspective of
the client. Data on the impact of discrimination on the LGBT community will be discussed along with strategies
for improving communication with LGBT clients.
