What is Scope?
Scope is a lawyer-to-lawyer information service. It provides the opportunity for an attorney who is unfamiliar with a legal area to talk to an attorney who is more experienced and knowledgeable.

How Does Scope Work?
The attorney seeking help calls a Scope panelist after obtaining the telephone number through the NSBA. After identifying adverse parties and counsel, the Scope user briefly describes general aspects of the problem. The panelist suggest various possibilities for research or further inquiry, allowing the Scope user to resolve the issue, using independent analysis and judgement. The conversation generally lasts no longer than ten minutes.

How much does Scope cost?
The Scope service is entirely free of charge to NSBA members.

Who may use Scope?
The service is available to all members of the Nebraska State Bar Association. While many newer lawyers make use of the Scope program, often more experienced lawyers may find it helpful if they are working on a case in an area of law that is new to them.

In what legal areas may Scope panelists help me?
A list of categories of law in which inquiries may be made appear on the back of this brochure.

Are there any restrictions on the questions I may ask a Scope panelist?
Panelist have been advised to avoid discussion of fees. Also, ethical constraints may prevent detailed discussion about a client's prior consent.

How do I become a Scope panelist?
If you are a member of the NSBA and have had at least three years of experience as an attorney, you are eligible to serve as a Scope panelist. Fill out the application below.
