NSBA Information
The mission
of the Nebraska State Bar Association is "Helping Lawyers Help People."
To achieve this mission, the Association addresses these goals and
objectives:
- To
foster and maintain integrity, professionalism, civility and high
standards of conduct by NSBA members
- To
improve public understanding of the legal system and the role
of lawyers and judges in society
- To
provide quality support and services for NSBA members
- To
promote and safeguard the proper professional interests of the
NSBA
- To
promote full opportunities for participation in NSBA activities
by all segments of the profession
- To
promote quality legal education
Programs supported by the Association include:
The
Volunteer Lawyers
Project (VLP), which provides donated legal services to low-income
Nebraskans who would not otherwise have access to the legal system.
One
Hour of Sharing is a campaign to raise funds volunteers
to support the provision of civil legal services to low income
Nebraskans (participation
info / contributors
).
The
Nebraska Lawyers Assistance
Program (NLAP), which helps attorneys, judges, their families
and friends overcome chemical dependencies.
Nebraska
Continuing Legal Education, which offers educational seminars
to enhance attorneys' ability to serve the public.

The
Nebraska State Bar
Association - Charitable Funds, Inc (NSBA-CFI) is a 501(c)(3)
non-profit corporation affiliated with the Nebraska State Bar
Association. It's focus is to obtain grants, gifts and contributions
to fund the work of the Minority and Justice Implementation Committee,
the Nebraska Lawyers Assistance Program, the One Hour of Sharing
campaign, the Volunteer Lawyers Project, Nebraska Continuing Legal
Education, and the New Initiatives Fund.
The
Nebraska State
Bar Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization, administers and funds Law-Related Education Programs for the public.
The
Nebraska Lawyers Trust Account
Foundation funds the Legal Aid of Nebraska organization by collecting and disbursing receipts from the Interest
on Lawyers Trust Accounts (IOLTA) program.
The
Nebraska
State Bar Commission, which administers the bar exam and handles
applications for admission to the practice of law in Nebraska
A House
of Delegates and an Executive Council govern the NSBA. The House
of Delegates has members elected based on representation and
is the official policy-making body of the profession in Nebraska.
The Executive Council consists of one delegate
elected from each of Nebraska's six Supreme Court districts, a chair
and chair-elect elected by the House of Delegates, and a president,
president-elect, president-elect designate and immediate past president
elected by active members. The NSBA has a long and distinguished
history.
