Public Information: Nebraska Minority Justice
Committe
The
Nebraska Supreme Court and the Nebraska State Bar Association, with
the assistance of the Public Policy Center, established the Minority
and Justice Task Force in 2001 to identify actual or perceived racial/ethnic
bias and discrimination in the Nebraska justice system and make
recommendations to the Supreme Court on how to address any identified
inequities. The major recommendation of the Final Report
was to establish a standing committee to implement the Task Force's
recommendations. The Nebraska Minority Justice Committe,
consisting of a racially and ethnically diverse group of judges,
lawyers, and community leaders has been formed and is currently
working on a number of initiatives. The mission of the Committee acheive three primary aims: 1) address racial disparity in both the juvenile and adult justice systems, 2) ensure equal access to justice and 3) increase the diveristy of Nebraska's judicial workforce and legal profession. In an effort to share their
progress and future agenda the Nebraska Minority Justice Committe
is proud to release its 2007
Progress Report.
