In this presentation lawyers will discuss nutrition and exercise and explore the idea of mindfulness and how to best utilize mindfulness in their daily lives. Lawyers will learn about the stress response and how it plays into their daily actions, automatic thoughts and the way they talk to themselves and others. This program will address signs of burnout in the legal profession and how to approach these with a self-compassionate lens to self-care. Proactively addressing self-care before experiencing burnout will allow lawyers to better navigate life’s stressors and ultimately live life to the fullest!

This session will discuss the following:

  • Setting SMART Goals:
    • Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Timely
  • Eating healthy and what this means
  • Exercising and how to develop a fitness program
  • Staying motivated
  • Developing the “whys” as a way to maintain wellness

11:00 am - 12:00 pm       Mindfulness in Mitigating Burnout: A Self-Compassionate Approach

Practicing mindfulness will help lawyers reduce stress, improve their ability to deal with their practice and clients, and bring about greater civility.This session will:

  • Identify the impact of burnout and stress on the body, mind and spirit
  • Explain what mindfulness is and how to use it in self-care practices
  • Explore a self-compassionate practice of self care
  • Discuss and practice the principles of meditation
