This seminar is targeted to lawyers who practice appellate law, with a focus on the Nebraska Supreme Court and Court of Appeals. Attendees will gain a better understanding of the appellate process for both courts and the subtle differences between the two.

Hon. John Freudenberg, Justice of the Nebraska Supreme Court, 6th Judicial District


Nebraska Supreme Court Justices Jonathan Papik and John Freudenberg, both relatively new as justices, will discuss what they’ve learned about the appellate process and the Nebraska Supreme Court, including information that would have been useful to them when they were practicing before the Court.

Hon. William Cassel, Justice of the Nebraska Supreme Court, 3rd Judicial District

Justice William Cassel will focus on what practitioners should know about the differences between arguments to the Nebraska Supreme Court and the Court of Appeals. He’ll also discuss differences in the courts’ processes, culture and traditions.

Behind the Curtain
Hon. Michael Heavican, Chief Justice, Nebraska Supreme Court

Chief Justice Michael Heavican will discuss the role court facilities play in the appellate process and how to use them most effectively, how dockets are created, and protocols in appearing before the Supreme Court and Court of Appeals. The Chief Justice will also preview the new session, and will include a brief tour of the court’s facilities.
