The Federal Law Section, chaired by Tessie Smith, will serve as a way to better connect the federal courts and practitioners, and offer CLE and networking opportunities. The International Law Committee, under the umbrella of the Business Law Section, is for lawyers practicing any type of international law—not just business law. Chair Grant Leach is planning CLEs on topics such as working in China and international e-docs, as well as a directory of all international practitioners, including which countries they work in, type of work, etc. Those interested can join the Business Law Section and then opt into the International Law Committee at no extra charge. A retirement might come with several years notice, after we have had enough time to create a succession plan. Other times, however, a departure is sudden, dramatic and shocking. We suddenly learn that one of our key people is leaving in just a few days, or perhaps that they suddenly quit and are already gone. It can create chaos as lawyers and administrators all scramble to deal with the aftermath. The people that remain are forced to take on tasks, projects, cases, and accountabilities they previously had no intention or expectation of handling. Full Article

If you can work in a way that makes a client’s life easier, you will get more work. Period. So how do you do that? Full Article
