As a child, Airina Rodrigues was an early reader and, by choice, spent a lot of time alone. "I had friends," she recalls, "but I needed time alone to unwind and decompress. That's where I gained energy." Rodrigues, who is an intellectual property associate at DLA Piper in New York City, has long identified herself as an introvert. A former competitive figure skater, Rodrigues doesn't mind performing or being in court. Rather, "being an introvert is really about how I approach problems and how I recharge," she explains. "I'm not shy, but I find networking draining. I love meeting new people, but it requires extra energy." Full Article

Public Notice For Appointment Of New Magistrate Judge
The Judicial Conference of the United States has authorized the appointment of a full-time United States magistrate judge for the District of Nebraska at Omaha. The duties of the position are demanding and wide-ranging: (1) conduct of most preliminary proceedings in criminal cases; (2) trial and disposition of misdemeanor cases; (3) conduct of various pretrial matters and evidentiary proceedings on delegation from a district judge; and (4) trial and disposition of civil cases upon consent of the litigants. The basic authority of a United States magistrate judge is specified in 28 U.S.C. § 636. Complete information available here.

International Law CLE and Informal Discussion
NSBA is offering a two-hour CLE seminar on “Cross-Border Litigation, Arbitration and Dispute Resolution Involving Canadian Entities: Key Considerations for U.S. Lawyers” on Thursday, Feb 25 in Omaha. The seminar will be 10 am to noon, followed by an hour lunch and informal discussion of the seminar material, issues faced by Nebraska lawyers working internationally, and whether there would be value in forming a section or committee of lawyers interested in international law. The Nebraska Legal Fee Arbitration Program Has 2 Vacancies for District Administrators
The purpose of the Nebraska Legal Fee Arbitration Program is to provide for the expeditious resolution through voluntary arbitration of disputes involving fees charged by attorneys. Additionally, the purpose is to provide for voluntary arbitration of fee disputes between attorneys in their professional capacity and physicians, stenographers, consultants and expert witnesses. As a service to the Courts, attorneys and clients, the NSBA offers a voluntary legal fee arbitration program. The program is administered by District Administrators, appointed by the NSBA President from each of the six judicial districts. The NSBA currently has a vacancy in the 4th Judicial District and the 6th Judicial District (of the Supreme Court Districts). Additional information about the program is available via the NSBA website. If you are interested in serving as a District Administrator, please submit your statement of interest and resume to Liz Neeley by January 26, 2016.

Nebraska Find-A-Lawyer: Reestablishing Our Statewide Lawyer Referral Service
In 2016, the NSBA will be reestablishing its Lawyer Referral Service via a new website: www.nefindalawyer.com. The new service will allow the NSBA to both provide attorneys with a low-cost marketing opportunity and to help connect members of the public with legal services. The Lawyer Referral Service will be live on or before January 18, 2016. The webpage will allow the public to search for attorneys by city, county, area of practice, and language. Search results will present the full list of attorneys that qualify under the search criteria but will randomize the order of the results. To participate in Nebraska Find-A-Lawyer, complete and return the application form to the Nebraska State Bar Association, along with the appropriate registration fees, and the requisite certificate of insurance addressed to the NSBA or with a copy of the declaration page of your policy showing that you carry the requisite professional liability insurance.
