| Victims Benefit from Community and Treatment Resources People who experience frequent or severe abuse, may develop symptoms that interfere with daily living, both personal and professional. The impact of ongoing relationship violence may result in terror, isolation, despair, decreased self-worth, and lost sense of control. Victims can develop chronic posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), which if left untreated, can persist for years. Attempting to deal with relationship violence without professional help can be difficult. While no one therapeutic model will fit the needs of everyone, research indicates that victims of relationship violence can benefit from therapies designed specifically to deal with the affects of trauma. NLAP can help. We have volunteers of both genders who are committed to assisting a lawyer, judge or law student who has experienced sexual assault or domestic violence.
