Currently out of 93 counties, there are 12 counties with zero lawyers and an additional 18 counties with three or fewer lawyers, making it difficult for the public to access legal services. The Nebraska State Bar Association established its Rural Practice Initiative in 2013. The program connects rural legal employers with law student and lawyers looking for employment opportunities in rural areas of the state. The NSBA hosts two interview events per year. One in the spring (via zoom) and one in the fall (in-person). To register please click on the appropriate links below. Law students wanting to participate in the program should contact their Career Services Dean. Greater Nebraska Rural Opportunities Interview Sessions The September 13th Event has been cancelled.
For rural legal employers who are hiring outside of the timeframe for participating in the rural practice interview events, if you post a job with the NSBA Career Center for 30 days, the NSBA will keep the position posted until filled. We will also disseminate the job posting to law students and lawyers who participated in the interview process. If you are a lawyer or law student looking for an employment opportunity in rural Nebraska, we will disseminate your resumes to interested law firms. For further information, contact Sam Clinch; (402) 742-8125.
