Nebraska State Bar Association Statement

Thursday, June 18, 2020

The tragic death of George Floyd in Minneapolis has affected many of us and has taken its toll on the public’s trust and confidence in the fairness of our justice system. As lawyers, we are uniquely situated to solve problems, stand up to injustice and effect change to remedy racial disparities in our legal system. As officers of the court, we must work to help rebuild public trust and confidence in the courts and make sure all Nebraskans have access to a fair and impartial system of justice.

In the coming weeks and months, the NSBA will be offering Continuing Legal Education (CLE) opportunities to help us all to: learn more about the racial disparities prevalent in our justice system, understand the role of implicit bias, and have a dialogue on what we can do to improve our system of justice and make our own profession more diverse and inclusive. The NSBA is committed to equal justice for all and will join our communities in reflection, conversation and action to make a positive difference in Nebraska.
