VLP Collaborates with Legal Aid of Nebraska to Provide Legal Services to Disaster Victims
Nebraska families and communities have suffered mass destruction and devastation by the recent flooding. Access to legal services and resources is critical to recovery. Victims need your help now. Disaster survivors who do not qualify for Legal Aid of Nebraska’s services are being referred to VLP to have their cases placed with attorneys who have agreed to provide free legal assistance. Assistance may include telephone and in-person consultations, limited scope and extended representation. Volunteer attorneys will receive online training and written resources on the issues they are likely to encounter and are covered by the VLP malpractice insurance policy. To volunteer, please contact Laurie Heer Dale at firstname.lastname@example.org or 402-742-8133.
NetWORKS! – NSBA’s Professional Networking Group
A great professional network can be extremely helpful to your clients and your career. NSBA offers an easy and enjoyable way to expand your professional contacts. NetWORKS! matches interested lawyers for one-to-one coffee or lunch every two months, at a time to be determined by the lawyers. There are two subgroups—Omaha and Lincoln. Any voluntary NSBA member lawyer or judge may join. Right now is a great time to sign up because the next round of matches begins May 1. More details and sign up are online.
Giving a Law Day, School or Group Presentation?
NSBA has created a presentation that any lawyer or judge may use when invited to give a presentation to a local civic or school group. The topic is “Fair and Impartial Courts,” including an explanation of how judges are appointed and the role of courts in our society. The presentation, which can be tailored to an audience and time allowed, includes a PowerPoint, a loose script and links to background information. Lawyers are often asked to give local presentations, including for Law Day coming up May 1. Get the presentation and more details online.

Casemaker Weekly Update
Searching for Statutes
You know exactly the citation for the statute you want and would you'd like to create a search and locate that statute. You can actually type that statute number in right into the search bar on the homepage. First, select the jurisdiction of the statute using the jurisdiction menu which is the box with the blue downward pointing arrow between the search bar and the search button. Next, using the circles below the search bar, also known as radio buttons, select section. This tells Casemaker you want it to look for a statute section with the information you put in the search bar. Now enter your citation in the search bar and hit the blue search button. Your statute should pull right up!
The NSBA now offers online classified ads on our website. You can post job openings, rental properties, offices shares etc. Job seekers and posters can find search openings and subscribe to new posting notifications. View a current listing.
