Rural Practice Initiative (RPI)

The Nebraska State Bar Association and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Law introduces the Rural Opportunities Law Program!

The Nebraska State Bar Association increased its efforts in 2013 to manage the shortage of small town lawyers by starting a rural practice initiative. Currently, 12 of Nebraska’s 93 counties have no lawyers.

A summer clerkship program was formed in 2013 to help place students and new attorneys in firms in Greater Nebraska. In 2017, students may apply for one or two 5-week clerkships. Participation by attorneys is critical for the summer clerkship program to succeed. Please help by hiring a student for the summer.

“I would like to thank you and the Nebraska State Bar Association for the housing stipend and for the opportunity to clerk in rural Nebraska. I would not have had the opportunity to clerk where I am and meet several outstanding attorneys without your help or the help of NSBA. It is truly a privilege to be able to work and learn about legal issues and practice in a rural area of Nebraska this summer.

-Amara Meyer, Rural Practice Initiative Summer Law Clerk

7th Annual Rural Practice Initiative Associate and Summer Clerkship Placement Program - North Platte, NE - February 21, 2020
In-person interviews for our clerkship program or full-time employment will take place at the Prairie Arts Center in North Platte, NE, on Friday, February 21, 2020 from 12:30 to 5:30 pm, with a reception & NSBA Health Insurance Consortium Informational Meeting to follow. The goal is to provide 15-20 minutes for each interview. We estimate that each attorney will have the opportunity to interview at least six students in the afternoon. Attorneys and students will have an additional opportunity to meet and converse at a reception following the formal interviewing session.
