Mission
The Nebraska State Bar Association works for Nebraska lawyers to help them achieve the highest standards of competence, ethics and professionalism and to protect and promote the administration of and access to justice.
Values
In meeting that mission, the NSBA strives to demonstrate:
- Integrity: Do what is right. Be honest. Be ethical.
- Respect: Value the perspective and contributions of others. Promote respect for the law and the profession.
- Accountability: Do what you say. Be transparent. Take responsibility for performance, decisions, and actions.
- Service: Fulfill our obligations to our members, the profession, the courts, and the public. Be responsive.
- Inclusion: Value all our members and promote the strengths that come from our differences, including our diverse backgrounds, circumstances, and geographic and practice settings.
Membership
All licensed lawyers are members of the Nebraska State Bar Association. Members who choose to support the mission of the Nebraska State Bar Association by paying sustaining dues are referred to as “sustaining members” of the Association. Sustaining members of the Nebraska State Bar Association help support programs designed to strengthen the legal profession and expand access to justice. Sustaining members receive access to benefits designed to support their practice.
Governance
The Nebraska State Bar Association (NSBA) is governed by the Officers of the Association, the House of Delegates and an Executive Council. The House of Delegates, whose members are elected to represent attorneys across the state, serves as the official policy-making body of the profession in Nebraska. The Executive Council functions as the administrative and executive body of the Association and includes representatives from each of Nebraska’s six Supreme Court districts, along with the Association’s officers—who are elected by NSBA members—and leadership selected by the House of Delegates.
Professional staff support the work of the NSBA and its members. The Association operates under rules adopted by the Nebraska Supreme Court and bylaws approved by its governing bodies. Ultimate authority rests with the membership, which may exercise initiative and referendum powers as provided in the bylaws.
The Nebraska Lawyers Foundation is the charitable arm of the Nebraska State Bar Association. The NSBA Executive Council serves as the Board of Director for the Foundation.
