Election to the House of Delegates
The NSBA House of Delegates is the policy making body of the Nebraska State Bar Association. Delegates are elected in each of the 12 District Court Judicial Districts. There is one delegate position for every 60 active licensed lawyers per district. Delegates are nominated by petition. The NSBA disseminates notice of the nomination process in the spring and the elections are conducted electronically in the summer. The term is for four years, and the House of Delegates meets 2-3 times per year. In 2026, there will be no House elections. In 2027, elections will be held for odd numbered districts. In 2028, there will be no House elections. In 2029, elections will be held for even numbered districts.
Selection of the Chair
The members of the House of Delegates elect its Chair, Chair-Elect and Chair-Elect Designate. The nominee of Chair-Elect Designate shall be nominated annually in the following geographic order: Douglas or Sarpy Counties, Lancaster County, Greater Nebraska. For example, in 2026, the Chair Elect Designate will be selected from Douglas or Sarpy Counties. In 2027 the Chair-Elect Designate will be selected from Lancaster County and in 2028 the Chair-Elect Designate will be selected from Greater Nebraska. The Chair-Elect Designate of the House is nominated by the House Committee on Nominations. The Chair of the House presides over all meetings and appoints members to House Committees, which are different from the Association Committees.
